DESSO Sports Systems has been known until now as primarily a producer of artificial turf and reinforced natural grass pitches for stadiums and sports parks. DESSO now offers sports surfaces that can be used for temporary sporting events, as well. That is the company's response to a need that it has seen substantial growth over the past few years for flexible and temporary sports facilities.

Existing sports facilities are not always suitable to meet those needs. They are often booked weeks in advance or reserved for sports clubs. Another development is that event organisers now frequently plan sporting events in town centres, where there is often a lack of sports infrastructure. Similarly, event halls, which are often not suitable for hosting sports events, have to be more multifunctional and flexible if they are to remain profitable.  To respond to those trends, DESSO applied its strengths with several international partners.

One of the first applications in the mobile and flexible range is the portable artificial turf pitch. For this solution, DESSO has devised a new installation procedure for artificial turf tiles in the form of large puzzle pieces. That makes it possible to install and remove the DESSO Mobile sports surface quickly and easily. The integrated shock-absorption layer guarantees the desired level of sporting comfort.

Skating in winter and summer 
DESSO also offers skating lovers more opportunities to enjoy their hobby.
Standard ice rinks are not portable; they are expensive to operate and require a certain degree of technical expertise by the operator. DESSO and its Norwegian partner, Scansis, have developed an innovative ice track that responds to those challenges. The ice track is not made of ice, but of plates of specially developed HDPE plastic. Using a patented puzzle-connection system, similar to the system used for the DESSO Mobile, it is easy to install and remove this ice track quickly and easily. The Scan-Ice® ice track can be used in winter and summer.

DESSO always puts the athlete's needs first when developing something new. That was also the philosophy behind these innovations, to make it possible to play at a high level on the portable sports surfaces.
In addition to innovations in permanent artificial turf pitches, DESSO wants to leverage these portable applications to strengthen its position as the leading international expert in sports applications.
