DESSO Launches Toolkit for Carpets in Education
28 July 2008
DESSO, one of Europe's carpet giants, is launching a toolkit that lays out the advantages of carpets within the Education sector and shows why high quality comfort gets full marks in a classroom environment.
Featuring a brochure that explains exactly what carpets can achieve for a classroom, six quiz cards banishing common misconceptions (such as the notion that carpet is more expensive to clean than hard flooring when actually it is cheaper) and a carpet sample showing DESSO product at its finest, the toolkit is available to all Education sector establishments.
As the brochure shows, there are many compelling reasons why DESSO carpets are ideal for Education establishments. For example, they are hard wearing; less slippery than hard floors, therefore aiding health and safety; they absorb light, reduce glare and soak up noise, making a vital environmental contribution to educational performance; they are soft, and radiate warmth for a friendly, welcoming feel; and studies show that, contrary to popular belief, they reduce dust particles and allergens that other surfaces tend to release, thereby aiding cleaner air and a more pleasant atmosphere for teaching and learning.
Stef Kranendijk, DESSO CEO, says: "For effective learning to take place, it is essential that the right educational environment is created. Meanwhile, comfortable carpeted classrooms encourage positive attitudes." He adds: "In some schools, 'carpet time' - actually sitting on the comfortable carpet during lessons - is used as an aid to reading. In general, carpet helps schools achieve a comfortable, caring ambience that encourages teacher retention and student attendance, and leads to better concentration, improved performance and higher test results. Carpets are also more economical than hard floors so they are budget-friendly as well as environmentally sound."
